Rosebery Crescent Edinburgh Sewer Repair

Rosebery Crescent Emergency Sewer Repair
We are continuing our emergency sewer repair work in the Haymarket area of Edinburgh.
During investigations on a damaged section of sewer beneath Rosebery Crescent, we identified further damage extending to the main sewer connection on Haymarket Terrace.
Due to the size of the pipe and the depth it is buried - three metres - we have to close part of the road to carry out the work safely.

Latest Update – July 2025
Our team on site have now successfully completed the replacement of the collapsed pipe across Rosebery Crescent Lane using a specialist drilling rig.
The team encountered a challenging section of concrete-encased pipe, which required additional work to break through from within the chamber, but the new pipe is now fully in place and overpumping has also been removed from site.
Our focus is now on installing the pipe across our excavation and progressing with backfilling works. We expect some demobilisation of the site to take place by Friday (25/07).
We still have some remaining tasks to complete on site including road markings and minor repair works within the downstream manhole chamber. These activities are not expected to be disruptive to residents.
Current Traffic Management
- Road closed between Rosebery Crescent Lane and Grosvenor Gardens.
- Access to Rosebery Crescent Lane will be maintained via Haymarket Terrace, with updated signage in place.
- Access to Grosvenor Gardens and St. Mary’s Music School will be maintained.
- A designated cycle lane will be provided alongside the works.
These essential repairs are difficult due to challenging ground condition and multiple utilities in the ground, however we are working as quickly and safely as possible to get this work finished.
We appreciate the patience and understanding of local residents, businesses, and road users while we carry out these essential repairs. Residents living nearby will receive a letter outlining the works as we approach the final phase.
