Esk Waste Water Pumping Station Musselburgh

We are carrying out a full refurbishment of Esk Waste Water Pumping Station, to help reduce the risk of sewer flooding and protect the local environment.
A temporary pumping arrangement is in place to keep the station operational. Our teams are continuing with investigation, design and implementation of the construction programme.
This work is estimated to be completed by December 2025.

Esk Pumping Station
We are currently carrying out essential maintenance on our pumping station in Musselburgh
What we are doing - Update June 2025
- The site perimeter has been extended. The temporary footpath has been upgraded and we have erected customer information boards.
- Teams on site have been working hard to clean out the station and existing wet wells out-with the station filled with sewerage. We have used large tankers to help us with this task. Once cleaned, the tankers also allowed us to isolate the flows coming into the station and relocate the temporary pumps outside. This now allows us to investigate and carry out repairs /replacement of the pumps and equipment within the station building.
- While our work is ongoing, there will be no impact to residents’ water or wastewater services. We would like to thank the community for your continued cooperation and support while this essential work is ongoing.
