Tay Street and Shore Road's Super Sewer
Tay Street and Shore Road Sewer Upgrade
We’re carrying out research related to this project, to understand your experiences during the time the works took place. This will help us improve our service.
It won’t take more than 10 mins to complete and will be open until 20 July.

Project Overview
A significant project totalling £23 million investment has been completed at Tay Street and Shore Road, which involved the installation of an upgraded sewer pipeline with a diameter of 2.2 metres. This approx 500-metre section of ‘super sewer’ will play a key role in supporting the city’s continuing growth, while also reducing the risk of sewer flooding affecting low-lying areas near the Tay between Muirton and the city centre.
This work was delivered on Scottish Water’s behalf by its capital project delivery partner Caledonia Water Alliance.

Latest Update - June 2025
We’re pleased to confirm that all work on the major sewer upgrade in Perth has now been completed and both Tay Street and Shore Road are fully open to vehicles, pedestrians, and cyclists.
This significant investment has seen approximately 520 metres of upgraded sewer pipeline installed beneath Tay Street and Shore Road. The new 2.2-metre diameter ‘super sewer’ is designed to support Perth’s ongoing growth and significantly reduce the risk of sewer flooding in low-lying areas near the River Tay.
Following handover to Perth & Kinross Council in early June, final resurfacing and reinstatement works have been carried out and all traffic management has now been removed.
Parking is now available as normal, with the South Inch Car Park now fully accessible via both entrances.
Pedestrian and cycle routes, including access to Moncrieffe Island via the railway bridge, remain open as normal.
We’d like to thank local residents, businesses and road users for their patience and understanding while this essential work was delivered over the last two years.

Tay Street and Shore Road are now open!
Following final reinstatement work by Perth and Kinross Council, both Tay Street and Shore Road are now fully open.
Community Engagement
We carried out a well attended information event at the Salutation Hotel in April 2023 to discuss the project with the Perth community. This event gave us the chance to show our information boards detailing the project and the necessary road closures that would be in place as well as answering any questions from the public.
Since then we promoted the project and road closures significantly through use of news, radio, and social media advertising. We also continued to regularly update our website with the most up to date project information.
The project team continued to keep residents and businesses informed and responded to feedback throughout the delivery of the project, while a community liaison group was formed for the Tay St aspect of the project which allowed our team to regularly meet and have discussions with members of the community and stakeholders through the most impactful stage of the work.
